Steel Pole Bathtub – “Scars From Falling Down” Slash Records/London 95′

“500 Club”

“Population 2″

“Home is a Rope”

“The Conversation”

It was 1995, I was just bout 21 and at this point in my life I was stuffin’ myself full with new “Alternative” music every which way I turned. This is one of the bands that has stuck with me.

Steel Pole Bathtub was born in Montana in 86′ then like most bands made the trek to Seattle then ended up in San Fran. They have multiple releases on the independent Label outta Berkley Ca – Boner Records. Who released bands like The Melvins, Fang, MDC………….

This is their 1st major label release on Slash Records. Which has been a constant Repeat Listen since the day I got it 13plus years ago.  An album with a perfect A side. Chaotic, Noise Rock, Freaked out Guitar and filled with weird sampling mixed in. The Lyrics of course always a sellin point for me are dark, Alcohol Fueled and twisted with confusion.

“Steel Pole Bathtub must’ve fallen down an awful lot as kids. Their music sounds like the musical manifestation of some very scarred minds…. Very depressing … discordant guitars and resonating feedback create an aura of frustration…. Their anarchic, guitar-driven, feedback-and-sampling-infused indie rock sounds much like … a product of Seattle … but what distinguishes their … grueling engine noise, squeals, drum beats and fuzzy feedback … according to drummer Darren Mor-X in an interview with Rolling Stone, is that “we’re not patriotic flannel.” -Ann Abel, Thresher
