The Mix

Its Early Wednesday Am~Over shitty WaWa Coffee. I’m Pleased A great deal cause I dont have work after today. This Post goes out to Ms Lady Di The one whos been Holding my hand pretty tight over the last 2months. We Were Blessed Monday night with a Real Treat!

Japanese Psych/Rock Flower Traveling Band LIVE, along with Birds of Maya and Serpent Throne.
Thank-You to My long time music peer Scott plus Johnny & Brenda’s home of great food/Fancybeers/live music. Word on the Street this isn’t the end of great psych/heavy bands from the 70s rolling through – COMUS Christ COMUS is coming to Philly ; ).
So it Goes ~ Ms Di and I went out on a “School Night”
drank a few Troegs Nugget Nectars & Espresso Porters, stuffed ourselves with octopi/hummus.
Open acts were Good, FTB was not Great but worth every moment of the late night out. the Keyboard player who is a new addition since their releases from the 70s put ya in a psych-out trance.

Satori – 1971′
Probably the most well-known FTB album on the West Side.
The songs on this album are lengthy & heavy. I suppose progressive, Jam Rock. Filled with strong guitar soloing and over-the-top vocals. “Stoner rock and Doom metal enthusiasts often cite this album as one of the precursors in those genres.”

(the above is not the original cover but a Canadian press which the cuts where taken from)

ENJOY
Flower Travelin Band – Gimme Air

Flower Travelin Band – Unaware

Dig the 8mm Footage

Since I’m not one of those Secret Squirrel Diggers who keeps Good “SPOTS” to myself ~ Hey Boys the Berlin Flea Market in South Jersey maybe worth your ride!! Fancy that a 20minute ride over the bridge from Philly and filled with records. Spent 3 hours yesterday wondering about eating soft pretzels laced with tomatoes & mozzarella & apple cider donuts walked out with a good mix of 45s & LPs.

My Favorite Find of the Morning
Cornel Gunter & The Flairs
“She Loves To Rock”
“In Self Defense”
(ABC Paramount #9698) (1956) (with The Flairs)

Me being a fan of DooWop & Loving The Coasters which Cornel was a member post the Flairs I grabbed it of course for 50cents. The history of this AfricanAmerican Doowop group is a complicated one. I’m not one to go into lineage and history
Enjoy the Cuts

I’ve been planning ahead for my next upcoming compilation for a mix exchange club I belong to. I’ve been thinkin about the past. I looked back over my blogs over the last one year plus and really wanna do a repeat listen ~ Hodge Podge of my favorite cuts from past posts for my mailing. I’m not to sure How I’m gonna flow together all the tunes but I love them all a great deal.
Its been a Good Year, Almost 20,000 hits(I know small Fish but that don’t bother me none), a bunch of great comments, and new internet music peers which always please me a great deal.

Follow me along memory Lane & Enjoy the Music

“What if a demon were to creep after you one night, in your loneliest loneliness, and say, ‘This life which you live must be lived by you once again and innumerable times more; and every pain and joy and thought and sigh must come again to you, all in the same sequence. The eternal hourglass will again and again be turned and you with it, dust of the dust!’ Would you throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse that demon? Or would you answer, ‘Never have I heard anything more divine’?” ~ Freidrich Nietzsche

Anyone who knows me knows I have always had a Huge Crush on Kenny Rogers since I was a little girl. I’m not talking about current day Kenny ~ Plastic Surgery & all Kenny. I’m talking About “The Gambler”.

The Title of my blog this morning is one of the best lines in Doom/ StonerRock in my eyes. I’ve touched on Scott “Wino” Weinrich great lyrics/guitar playing before here ~ maybe once, maybe even twice….
Well I’m gonna do it again ~ 3rd time is a charm.
I’ve been listening to disc 1 of the “Last Embrace” Spirit Caravan Pretty solid for weeks now during drives to work, as I drove to NJ in the rain, and During Yoga @ home 5am. I love these guys.
The band consisted of Dave Shermann and Gary Isom and Wino. I really dont feel like going into the lineage of Baltimore/DC Doom but Google it if your interested ~ its a long strange trip of good music that follows these guys to the present day.
The album Jug Fulla Sun has always put me into another zone.
This Double Disc set “Last Embrace” is a good drivin companion to have with you and it always reminds me of goodtimes. It was Released in 2003 by Meteor City Records.

“Last Embrace”

“Fang”

“Dead Love/Jug Fulla Sun”

This is a collaboration of 19 songs from their two albums “Jug Fulla Sun” & “Elusive Truth”, three songs that appeared on their debut 7″ (under the name Shine), songs from their final 7″ ~ Spirit Caravan, the song from their split 7″ with Sixty Watt Shaman and their song from the Rise 13 compilation on Rise Above Records.
It also features the last three songs Spirit Caravan recorded:The Last Embrace, Brainwashed” and Dove-Tongued Aggressor.

Beck, Bogert & Appice The SuperGroup Power Trio, A Self Titled Record
Debut released on Epic Records 1973
~ I love a Great Power Trio ~

Can’t Go wrong here!! Jeff Beck of the Yardbirds, Tim Bogert & Carmine Appice from Vanilla Fudge/Cactus. Via My Internet searchin the word is the minor hit single off this record was the cover of Steve Wonder’s “Superstition” by far not my favorite cut. The record on a whole as always with my picks to share is just a Good Solid Rock Record. Great Guitar including Slide moments. I dont usually RAVE about Bass but it hits ya pretty good. “Why Should I Care” has always been a big repeat track for mix use due to I love the lyrics.

Enjoy the Cuts ~ Happy Friday

“Black Cat Moan

“Why Should I Care”

“Sweet Sweet Surrender”

There are a million other things I should be doing besides “THIS”. The Ethics of Utilitarianism vs Virtue for My Higher Learning or maybe the silly paper on Goggle’s potential power, privacy concerns and ethics of it. I should be putting together my CD Coffee Mix fancy Covers for mailing. Instead I prefer to Drink Coffee and play with Rock&Roll Records. Nothing Rare by any means, just the staple Good stuff that I like to repeat listen….
Enjoy!
